Fire Department Permits
Our department is open 7:00am – 7:00pm Monday through Sunday to process your burn permits, fireworks permits, oil burner permits and special events permits. For any questions, feel free to contact the station during those times for further information.
Fire Permits – There are four types of fires that permits can be obtained at the fire department:
Category I Fire – This is a small, controlled fire, such as a camp or cooking fire, no greater than 2′ in diameter contained within a ring of fire resistive material or in a protable fireplace. This ring of fire resistive material or portable fireplace must be a minimum of 25′ away from any occupied structure. A category I fire, conditions permitting, may be kindled with a permit at any time of day whether raining or not.
This can be obtained for a one time burn or for a season permit, which is valid until December 31st of the current year.
Category II Fire – This is a controlled fire, such as a camp or cooking fire, no greater than 4′ in diameter contained within a ring of fire resistive material or in a portable fire place. This ring of fire resistive material or portable fireplace must be a minimum of 50′ away from any occupied structure. A category II fire, conditions permitting, may only be kindled with a permit between the hours of 5:00pm and 9:00am unless it is actually raining.
This can be obtained for a one time burn or for a season permit, which is valid until December 31st of the current year.
Category III Fire – This is any other fire, not a category I or category II fire or a fire greater than 4′ in diameter or a fire not contained within a ring of resistive material. This fire must be a minimum of 50′ away from any occupied structure. A category III fire, conditions permitting, may only be kindled with a permit between the hours of 5:00pm and 9:00am unless it is actually raining.
This permit is issued for on the day the burn is to take place and is only valid until 9:00am the following day.
Category IV Commercial Fire – This is a fire other than a category I fire, that can be kindled with a permit between the hours of 9:00am and 5:00pm whether raining or not. A permit for this fire would be issued jointly between the Forest Ranger and the Forest Fire Warden or the Warden’s authorized agent. The permittee must comply with additional special provisions to qualify for a category IV fire permit.
