Windham Swing Band in Belmont Dec. 2 Winni Echo 11/14/18
BELMONT — Parks and Recreation Department staff and Belmont Elementary School PTO volunteers lead revelers in celebrating the season with caroling, crafts, and cookies in Belmont on Friday, Dec.15. A variety of winter crafts for all-aged children was available in the Belmont Mill's Senior Center at 6 p.m. A community sing-along was held at the historic Village Bandstand and around downtown, ending with hot cocoa and cookies served in the Mill, at 6:30 p.m. Song books were provided for all carolers and the Student Hospitality Club of Lakes Region Community College Culinary Arts program generously baked refreshments. This newest local tradition was started by Nicole Sturgeon four years ago, and participation has grown each December. "We want everyone to enjoy the beautiful Village lights, old-fashioned street lanterns and festive decorated homes along Main Street. All are welcome to join us crafting gifts, singing, or as audience members. The only requirements are community spirit and dressing warmly," said Parks and Recreation Director Janet Breton. Holiday Gathering in the Village was a Snowy Success!
Regardless of the snow, we had a great time at our event. Snow started around 12:30 pm. but everyone enjoyed our two guitarists and bass/beat box musician who played nice classic Christmas songs. We had ornament making in the library and we received sufficient snow for some sliding on the small hill behind the library. Santa was there greeting everyone and we toasted marshmallows - a definite hit with the adults and children. We included Cup Stacking and a Pine Cone Toss. Sorry if you missed us due to the weather, but we'll continue with these great community events in the future!
